Dr. Hoppe ~ Coach Carl, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to interview you. I am excited to learn from you once again. So let’s start off as you would, candidly, openly and with passion. What is being “so darn good that no one can ignore you about?”
Coach Carl ~ Thank you Dr. Hoppe. I am a creator at heart. I create innovative ways for practitioners to succeed and they do. I use that statement because there are so many good practitioners in the world that no one knows about. There vision, mission and value they offer isn’t being seen by the masses. And with the beginning of the medical downfall and insurance madness, Chiropractors, Acupuncture, Fitness trainers, Yoga Studios and Private Practice M.D.’s all have the chance to literally lead the planet in health care, BUT, not enough people know they exists. Now is not the time to play second fiddle to the drug companies and an economic winter. Its time to accelerate and take advantage.
Dr. Hoppe ~ Awesome. How do we as practitioners make it so that who we are, what we do, and our marketing is not ignored? How can we stand out and drive more passion, profits and patients-clients like you’ve talked about?
Coach Carl ~ First let’s look at how we keep ourselves in the norm. Practitioners copy and model each other which makes them look the same. They also think and play myopically and small. When they have a good month, they stop growing, marketing and shift focus. Which means new patients/clients were just a means to an end. When they have a bad month they panic. Which means they were not on purpose to begin with. That is not a system. As a potential new client or patient you cannot ignore a health care business that is growing, expanding and inspiring people!
I see this everywhere. Practitioners stop growth because it equals pain, stress, more work, fatigue, more expense and time, and can kill the passion. Most practitioners cannot withstand growth for very long before they fear burn out, so it becomes a stop-go race instead of a flow. Each time you stop, wander, hesitate, thousands of people who need you, don’t even know you exist, and when you do market again you’re getting ignored. If who you are doesn’t cause people to wake up and pay attention, then make your mission and presence stronger.
This means STOP selling what you do, your profession and technique. Selling me a subluxation does not work. It means nothing to the average person. Telling me you can transform my life, doesn’t do it either. Stop selling what you do and how you do it. Turn me on to what is possible, turn me onto WHO you are and WHY you do it. That is what cannot be ignored. Remember the little 5 foot Indian guy with a cane the British tried to ignore? Ya, they couldn’t. His message was not and still not ignored. Do you really know what you are marketing and selling? Get clear, get outside the box. Like this, The HealthCare System without Side Effects. It’s clear what I stand for, why and how it helps my patients.
Dr. Hoppe ~ Coach Carl, can you say more about this, I find this to be really interesting because I market all the time, and I feel like everyone else does what I do, and I am not getting as much response and attention as I want. I guess my marketing is getting ignored?
Coach Carl ~ Yes. Who you are is so valuable, important and useful in the world, how can you possibly hold that back? When your mission, values and purpose are strong, you cannot go unnoticed, yet so many do. Who you are should gently and passionately scream “what you stand for and how it helps me on all levels.”
Do you know what you stand for? Don’t tell me you stand for transforming one life at a time. That is easily ignored. People do not wake up everyday thinking, “I need to transform my life.” Hence, your mission is ignored. You have to connect your mission with your target. When you walk into a restaurant can I tell you are on a mission? That you are intelligent, armed with skills that can change a life? Does your mission emanate from every pore in your body? If not, you’re doing a job not experiencing your mission.
You stand for you, your CORE values that guide your life and practice. How connect them to how your values empower your patients and clients.
You have probably heard the phrase, “If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything?” Hence why so many practitioners try one marketing strategy after another, one coach, another seminar, another practice trick or technique. They get short term results and a lot of intervals. But rarely the fullness of the experience. Too many practitioners lose their power because they sell their technique or profession instead of their greatness.
Dr. Hoppe ~ In my experience, its not enough to just generate new patients, you have to keep them and that requires you being more than good, You’ve taught me that my practice and team need to be extra-ordinary. How does being extraordinary help a practice long term?
Coach Carl ~ How do you want to be remembered? Your entire practice, your patient-client care protocols, procedures, marketing, the overall experience your practice provides should stem from the core of “how you want to be remembered?” You lead your life and practice with the end in mind to guide yourself to the fulfillment of that goal, that vision. Each encounter with every patient and client, you have the chance to make an impact to be remembered. And when you do, you WON’T get objections like, “we don’t have time, money or I have to check with my spouse, or I want to wait.” No one puts of what is valuable and important when they remember how amazing you are.
Dr. Hoppe ~ Coach Carl, you had a story of a doctor who was nearly paralyzed, can you tell that one today
Coach Carl ~ I thought you would never ask. A doctor who started his practice next to me 3 years ago, I finally went to visit. Like most, I was in pain. He finally told me that he was a victim to 3 back pain surgeries and nearly lost his legs and arms. Through Yoga, Chiropractic care and diet he learned to walk again. I thought, all these years my office has been next to your and you never once informed me? This is a great remembering piece, a great marketing piece, and a way to bond and say, “I want this guy as my doctor.” You cannot ignore his story. Except he was ignoring it so no one got to see how amazing he is. Don’t hide out, people buy you and so your role is to let people buy you.
Dr. Diana Hoppe ~ In regards to running a practice or business, what strategies do you want people to know about so they can be so darn good they never get ignored?
Coach Carl ~ Yes, practice is actually simple, not to be confused with easy. Most offices are so focused on to do task that they are not growing the business, there maintaining. Can you leave your office for one month, take a vacation and still grow and produce profit? Then you have a job, not a business.
You need a map. If I invited you on a cruise around the world and said, “I don’t have a map,” would you feel good about travelling with me? You have to know exactly where you are in practice, where you want to be, and a series of strategies that move you towards the goal, it’s called a map, a game plan. If I walked into my client’s office right now, they could hand this map to me and I could use it. They are guided, strategic, passionate and always on target. Its fun!
Dr. Hoppe ~ I do this in my office more and more because of what you taught me and it works. I am in total command of my office. We always know what strategy to use to hit our goals each month and its fun.
Dr. Hoppe ~ How does being so darn good affect people’s ability to pay your fees?
Coach Carl ~ Great question! It makes price irrelevant. You have to turn your office inside out so people can see how darn good you are. Why should a new patient or client take time out of their day to find out if you’re good? And have to pay for it? No, no, no, no. You have to be transparent, awesome and upfront with YOU and show the world how darn good you are. That pulls, attracts and causes people to show up for you.
World Class Patient-Client Care and Making Price Irrelevant. Easier said than done. Most business fail at doing these two things. Making price irrelevant removes financial fear and concern, and world class patient-client care means the results of my services outweighs the cost, they are lifetime memories that you can continue to benefit from. It’s a win-win!
Dr. Hoppe~ Your methods are amazing. I can relate to it, and my patients and clients all feel like they have made the right decision before they arrive to my office. It makes my life easy, I don’t have to sell or convince them. They are in 100%. What final bits of inspiration can you share with us today?
Coach Carl ~ Patients and clients remember those who TUGGED THEIR HEART STRINGS, MADE IT IN THEIR MIND, and CAUSED THEM TO CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES AND YOU. Recently a woman who found me on Facebook Private Message me. She said, “Do you have any idea how you have helped me?” I said, “NO, have we met before?” She said “no”, I have been following your posts on social media for two years while I was battling cancer. I read your posts when I wake up at night in pain. You have help me through the pain and chemo and radiation. I just want to say thank for who you are, you helped keep me alive.
This woman has not met me, isn’t PAYING ME, BUT she knows me, she got what I stand for. NOW IMAGINE WHAT HAPPENS WITH MY CLIENTS who work with me in person!
If who you are speaks the truth, powerfully, no one can go very long without connecting with you. Be more than who you are. be so darn good that no one can ignore your marketing, your intelligence, your abilities, or practice and mission. DON’T settle for being the 9th President!
